The Terror of the Night
It was a dark and stormy Halloween night in the small town of Maplewood. The streets were empty, save for a few brave trick-or-treaters, and the only sound was the howling of the wind.
Suddenly, a loud screech pierced the night sky. The children stopped in their tracks, their eyes wide with fear. What was that sound?
The answer came soon enough. From out of the darkness, a flock of human-sized bats descended upon the town. They flew in circles, their wings beating the air with a deafening sound. The children screamed and ran for cover, but the bats followed them, swooping and diving in pursuit.
The bats flew around the town, their screeches echoing off the buildings. They seemed to be searching for something, but no one knew what. The townspeople huddled in their homes, too scared to venture out.
The bats continued their search until the sun began to rise. Then, as quickly as they had come, they disappeared into the night.
The townspeople were relieved, but they never forgot the terror of that Halloween night. To this day, no one knows what the bats were looking for, but the memory of their haunting still lingers in the air.
